Ever since mankind was young, the one constant that followed them no matter where they went, no matter how much they changed, was conflict. Whether it be a dispute between individuals, between villages, between cities, between nations, or between man and their own creations. Conflict is an inevitability. They could leave the Earth behind and travel to other worlds, to distant star systems, and even other galaxies, but the specter of conflict would follow. And yet, here on this hell of an Earth, a person could still find peace and beauty. At least, that's what Jori thought as he sat upon a cliff looking off into the distance as the sun began to peak over the horizon. This is what they called the twilight hour, when light and dark intertwine for the briefest of moments. He didn't often find himself this far away from Marketdome, at least not on a casual trip. Jori grasped the locket around his neck and clicked it open. He gazed at the picture inside, and image of himself and two other people. The older lady he assumed was his mother, and that meant that the younger woman was likely his sister, but he could remember nothing. "I don't know where you are, or if you're even alive, but I hope you can see the same view as me."
Closing the locket, he turned his head to look behind himself. Behind him stood the massive figure of the Gundam Barbatos, its shadow pointing to the west. Far to the west stood the city of Marketdome. From where he sat, it was barely visible. A speck on the horizon. He wondered how long he'd continue to call this place home. He returned his gaze to the rising sun. Slowly, but surely the twilight began to end, the darkness of the night replaced with the light of a new day. Jori stood up, his sightseeing trip coming to an end. He stepped on the repelling line and made his way back to Barbatos' cockpit. As he sat down, he parted the back of his jacket which split in two down the center, revealing the interface for his Alaya-Vijnana system. It hooked into the pilot seat of the Gundam and a rush of information flooded his nervous system and AV lobe. He had grown used to that sensation long ago. Well, shall we go home Barbatos? As the mobile suit began to turn it stopped. A signal went off in the cockpit, signaling the detection of something. Barbatos' head turned to face out towards the sun again.

Belle of the Golden West
"It isn't your first time on earth, is it Vasily?"
"No. I came here for a bit with my father, said it'd be good to connect with the motherland. I don't think he quite realized how fucked it was."
"Well, this is the best place to start, and rest. We'll be at Marketdome in a little bi-uh, there's a suit on the sensors?"
Vasily shifted, placing a hand on Jana Pavolva's shoulder. Even if the woman was the Captain of the ship, Vasily still had the only suit aboard. As he made his way to the back of the ship, Vasily Brelov's mind began to relax. He wanted to be in a clear space by the time he left the ship. Indeed, by the time he found himself standing in front of the gleaming white suit he narrowed his eyes before he turned to the side. Quickly slipping into his pilot suit, he'd crack his neck before stepping out onto the platform leading to the open cockpit of Bael. If it wasn't for the rectangular box on his back, it wouldn't be too different from any other suit, and when the cockpit sealed shut it would fall into silence. When the whirring of gears sent a cable from the back of the seat to the Alaya-Vijnana whisker, it made Vasily grunt in pain.
He didn't like the feeling of it connecting, but it was the sheer rush he felt once he was one with Bael that made it worth it as the suit began to breathe to life once more. Once the sensors came online, he was surprised by what he saw. "G-08? Barbatos is still active? How?" Vasily Brelov believed he was the last of of the AV users, so a brief thought was pushed aside in favor of a more reasonable one. The pilot had switched out the system for a more common place one. As the long doors on the side of the Garencieres class ship opened open, Vasily Brelov heard Jana's voice filling his ears. "Be careful Vasily, once you leave we'll make for Marketdome."
Unlike other Gundam Frames, Bael was like none other, if only for the fact it could maintain flight under gravity. It came from the side of the ship, a blue fireball against the sky before it's course was adjusted and sent towards Jori. The white gundam with glowing reddish pink eyes, and he was sure the pilot could see his signature too on his sensors. ASW-G-01 Gundam Bael. The first of the frames, and one of the most powerful, a match for anybody else using the line. "I've been looking for you, Barbatos."

A name flashed on Barbatos' screen: G-01 Gundam Bael. Jori's eyes widened at the realization that he had just encountered a mobile suit from the same line as Barbatos, and going by the numbers, it was older and probably the first. Bael had left a ship, meaning the mobile suit was interested in him rather than Marketdome which seemed to be the ships destination based on its flight path. "Well now, this is quite the surprise. But even still, they won't stand against me." Barbatos retrieved its newly minted katana's from its back. The money and mobile suits Atariel had given him in exchange for his information allowed him to not only have these blades fashioned from the same material as Barbatos' armor, but also a pair of 200mm guns, one mounted on each forearm.
With his mind linked to Barbatos, its eyes were Jori's eyes, and he could see all that he needed to see. The calculations ran through the AV system quickly and Barbatos' left arm lifted up, the 200mm gun snapping forward to face the incoming Bael, and fired. He fired that round with the sort of spur of the moment precision that AV users were capable of. Except, he didn't fire directly at Bael. No, this was a warning shot, intended to fly mere inches away from the suit. Jori opened a communications line. "I suggest you head back to your ship. We don't want things getting ugly for you, now do we?"

"Oh, look! It's that weird Gundam again. And he's got a friend!"
Diana rubbed her temples; she loved her sister dearly, but by the heavens if the woman wasn't just gratingly bubbly at times. And it wasn't even intentional! Shifting to look at one of the many monitors hooked up to external feeds on their landship, she saw that it was indeed the same Gundam she'd encountered the other day - repaired if not also rearmed, though it was hard to tell from this distance. A second machine that seemed to share an odd similarity to it was descending from on high. The meeting was looking less than cordial, and it was only moments later that the Barbatos spontaneously opened fire on Vasily and the Bael.
"...oh." She glanced over at Andrea, noting the woman's furrowed brow. Apparently even she had been caught off-guard by the sudden display of aggression. Diana could rest assured that if she could note the similarity in the two Gundams' construction, her sister was already light-years ahead of her. And she could tell what was coming, already halfway out of her seat as the words came.
"Do go out and get me some better footage of them, would you? Try not to interfere, but you know what to do if it can't be helped."
Her Sword Calamity was, as always, ready and waiting. The Gundam stepped out into the dull glow of dawn, and the rising light caught the orange machine and seemed almost to set it aflame. Truth be told, Diana rather hoped that Jori abandoned his current target and came after her. She'd been looking forward to encountering him again to settle their earlier score...

"Is the unit ready for deployment yet?" The question had been one that was a part of Korbalez's daily routine now. "Tylerion," they were on pleasant terms, but he was delivering bad news, again, and switched to more traditional military decorum. "Captain, the Grand Zeong is not to be taken lightly. If it isn't absolutely 100% operational it could kill you." The answer did not seem to register with Tylerion, "It could kill me under the best circumstances," the lack of amusement was evident in his tone. "We've been here for over a month and we still haven't gotten the unit's operational systems sorted?" "Well Captain, your Father put some very extensive security protocols in place, we're working around the clock to get the unit up and functioning."
Tylerion nodded, despite his dissatisfaction there was little that could be done. His eyes shifted to the odd crown that had adorned his father's head when he was found in the cockpit of the Grand Zeong. He snapped back into the present quickly, "Status of the Halpuley Alpha?" Korbalez nodded, this was part two, every damn time. "The Alpha is operational, but it is at only about 80%. It suffered a fair amount of damage in Australia sir." The last observation rankled Tylerion for a moment.
"Very well, let me know when the situation regarding either unit improves. I'm going to see if there's anyway to outsoure some additional help. He hated the working so the Marketdome, continual jostling between the private military units that ran the market. It had changed significantly since the last time he was here, but he needed a way to gain additional and discrete assistance in facilitating the necessary repairs to his new prize.
He was preparing to take a transport into Marketdome proper, but a sudden report halted him. "Captain, we have a report of several mobile suits fighting. They're a ways away from Marketdome, but they both appear to be interesting units. One is maintaing in atmosphere flight." Tylerion shrugged for the moment. "Monitor the situation." Tylerion shook his head, these constant distractions were par for the course operating in this sector. The Imperatus maintained it's partially concealed position in a canyon bed some 20 kilmeters from Marketdome. They weren't expecting any trouble, but a maintained readiness was always necessary.

There was nothing to be afraid of. He remembered it now, what his father once told him as everybody and everything they knew died. As Bael continued full-stop towards Barbatos. It's course was not altered, even as Vasily narrowed his eyes, but the sound of that voice, young? Older than a teenager, but not by much Vasily figured. Still, there'd be no reply for Jori, yet.
Instead, Bael did move, as the blade holders shifted up and over the mobile suit's hips. Bringing the golden hued weapons into easy grasp for those pointed fingers to pull free. However, for Jori, it might be a surprise to see the state of Bael, clean and glimmering, as if it had just been rolled out from the factory. Untouched by the cataclysm and the horror of it's past, unlike it's pilot. Although Vasily was bothered by it's reaction time, it didn't matter, he could salvage Barbatos after he killed it's pilot.
------
"Do you see it Vasily? Do you understand what Bael represents?"
"No..what does it represent?"
"Hope. Vengeance. The dawning of a new era, but are you sure you want to go through with the surgery? I told you, you don't have to..you're my son, not a weapon to be used and discarded."
"...I do, it feels like the right thing to do. I want to do my part.."
---------
Even as Bael continued on it's course for Barbatos, Vasily narrowed his eyes. His eyes however, were drawn it's swords and that made the man's blood rush, it peaked his excitement and Vasily Brelov found his tongue licking his dry lips for a moment before he finally spoke.
"I've found you, Barbatos."

Jori grinned when Bael's response was to ignore his warning and keep charging. Finally, another Gundam Frame, something that could match his power. The excitement coursed through his body. Barbatos shuddered just as he did, his thoughts translating into motions. Barbatos charged to the cliff edge and jumped, igniting its thrusters to hurl it towards Bael. It couldn't stay in the air indefinitely, but they were close enough that that didn't matter. As Jori prepared to strike, his flight was interrupted by an Ahab Wave reaction. A beam came flying from off in the distance and pierced the air between Barbatos and Bael. Jori threw the verniers on and and spun around the beam with Barbatos now descending towards the ground. He ignited the main thruster to slow his descent and looked off into the distance. "What the..."
__________________________________________________________
The maw of a Hashmal-type mobile armor snapped shut as its beam switched off. It had been awoken from its slumber after picking up faint Ahab Waves, and it was not alone. Flanking it were multiple other Hashmal and Ishim types, and swarming around them were Pluma's, their minions.

Tylerion moved to brush past Korbalez with a simple nod to commend the man on his continued work. However, their conversation regarding the newtype's mobile suits bore less than desirable answers and he returned to his private quarters. He looked over the data slate in his chamber, Korbalez had forwarded all schematic and operational reports on both the Halpuley Alpha as well as the Grand Zeong. While the Halpuley's repairs were straight forward enough, the horizontal thruster binders on the unit were functional but the mega particle cannons had become damaged and had to be bypassed for the time being. The unit's 2 vertical binders still had functional mega particle cannons, and Tylerion shrugged, acknowledging things could be worse. The unit's shield had been destroyed, easy enough to replace, his eyes scanned the series of individually minor problems that when added up would amount to more nuisance than hamstringing. While his attention should have been focused on the functional unit he had at his disposal he couldn't stop his mind from wandering.
He was unsure what the pulsing was in his chest, the embers of some forgotten desire or dream. Or a nightmare. What further safeguards could be on the unit? He mused to himself, looking over the data readouts for the Grand Zeong. The unit should be functional, and yet they were unable to access any of its operational systems, there seemed to be no override they could tap into despite numerous attempts to access the unit's core systems. His eyes caught the glint of the crown his father had been wearing when he'd been discovered. Tylerion had briefly had the crown adorn his head in the interlude while they secured the Grand Zeong and returned to the Imperatus. Since that moment, the crown, the massive, daunting mobile suit, all of it had been like a drum pounding, thudding in his heart and soul, pulling at him. He cocked his head quizzically as he looked down at the crown, it had found its way into his right hand, had he absent mindedly retrieved it from its storage safe? He was unsure, but hurriedly put it back. I see... He felt like he knew the answers now...He wasn't sure if he liked them. The course he had set for himself was in motion, and he would follow it.
The ship, as ever was under the command of Captain Jaryk, an incredibly savvy tactician and a man who had been one of the better pilots Tylerion had operated alongside. The loss of his legs however saw his talents utilized in fleet battle, as his path as a pilot had been forced to an abrupt halt. Jaryk's eyes were drawn to the monitors as he watched a prolonged beam discharge tear across the sky. It seemed to target and interrupt the two mobile suits that had been clashing in the vicinity. The two units had been drifting towards their position, though their movements didn't seem to indicate any concerted effort to find the Imperatus, maintaining as little visibility as they could, their energy signature would be mostly shielded by the massive canyon they had chosen to take up a holding in.
The two mobile suits had been a situation to monitor and observe, but this large, concentrated beam erupted from within the forest. Multiple energy signatures began to manifest on the sensory readouts. First one, then another and another. The larger sensory images were then surrounded by a flotilla of smaller energy signals. "God damnit," Jaryk muttered as he stood up on his cybernetic legs, he turned to the comms "Marius, scramble the mobile suit teams! It looks like we've got incoming hostiles." Marius nodded quickly and began relaying orders to all mobile suit pilots.
The hanger crews were suddenly in full roar, getting every one of the Doven Wolf b units prepped and readied for launch. "Get every Doven equipped and readied to launch immediately!" the shouts came across the crew comms as different teams fluttered from one unit to the next to make sure every unit was topped off with propellant. The launch platform crews were hustling as well, personnel quickly throwing on their blaze green jackets and grabbing their orange batons to direct the mobile suits into queue to launch.
"Tylerion, we're scrambling all mobile suits," Jaryk's voice came over the comm in his quarters, it pulled his mind away from poring over the immense data that was contained in the tablet in his hands. But there was no time to troubleshoot or theorize about the mobile suit he viewed as his birth right. "Roger that Jaryk, have them prepare the Halpuley Alpha for launch, she should be almost 90% operational by now based on Korbelaz's estimates." He was already exiting his room, and as he did he ran into the familiar face and form of Elysa Garzon. The Lieutenant was rushing through the corridor, head down and fixing her flight suit as she moved, her helmet's visor was open and her left arm was looped through it. She looked Tylerion in the eyes and could see that his mind was elsewhere, and he wondered if she could see or sense what was racing through his mind. "Tylerion," she spoke as an old friend with reassurance in her tone, they'd carried out countless operations together, under the flag of Jupiter in another time and in this new convoluted world. She knew sides of the man that were guarded and hidden, perhaps even more than Tylerion himself realized. "Tylerion, Jaryk is reporting multiple signatures, he believes they're mobile armors," there was some bite to her words, with more weight to them than her melodic voice might lead one to believe. She slapped Tylerion's shoulder with a fair amount of force, she was a small woman, but athletic and bred for war, but her hand rested a moment on his shoulder, her voice softening "we'll defeat our enemies, just as we always do."
Tylerion nodded, "We're the 117th Lieutenant, defeat is not an option," he felt a reassurance from his friend that pulled him fully into the moment at hand. They were both racing down the corridor, Elysa had her purple helmet on as they rounded into the hanger bays. She gave a quick thumbs up as she raced towards her Doven, marked with the 117th insignia on the left shoulder plate, her unit's torso had been repainted deep purple. Elysa effortlessly glided down the cable ladder that lead to the cockpit of her unit. Quickly flipping the toggles to prepare the unit for operation, the reactor roared and she could feel the thrum of the machine as it prepared once again for combat.
Tylerion made his way towards the Halpuley Alpha, Korbalez walked with him and gave him a last minute run down of the repairs that had been enacted on the unit. "The 2 mega particles on the horizontal binders are still down, the AFS should work, she still looks a little rough though." Tylerion's eyes were drawn up and he saw the scars she bore, the sear marks along the shins of the unit. "Final repair report puts her at 89% Captain," Korbalez finished, but Tylerion was already riding the tow cable up towards the cockpit. As he took his place in the cockpit he felt the machine snarl as it roared to life, all of his senses began to reach out, his pulse was controlled, but he felt the pounding of wardrums in his soul. He had been bred for this, this was his purpose, and he never felt more in his element than in a mobile suit. "Halpuley Alpha is ready to launch." The unit moved towards the launch deck, the overhead lighting intermittently casting it in shadow and lending it an even more ominous look, the slate grey and dark blue finish of the mobile suit, weathered and worn from a recent engagement, the beam shotrifle hung lazily in the units right hand. He was in a place of serenity, waiting for clearance to launch, whoever it was out there, they would eliminated them. It's strange, I can't feel anything from them..., the thought vanished and was pushed from his mind as the thrusters fired and the catapult slung the Halpuley Alpha forward, "The Captain's launched," the call came over the comms. "Jaryk, take the Impertus and maneuver further down the canyon, I don't want our only ship to be bogged down without a means of escape." With his commands issued to Jaryk he addressed the mobile suits in his squadron, "All units on me," Tylerion barked over the comms, and quickly the Dovens under his command took up their formation, moving on an intercept course towards the jungle.

The hum of the particle beam from the mobile armor drew Vasily Brelov's eyes towards the shape of the monsters from his dreams. It felt like a life time ago since he felt what it was like to see once. That sense of overwhelming dread, but things were different now. Vasily was no longer a scared boy, he was older, and filled with anger. These things had stolen his childhood, they stole his father from him, and Vasily wanted to make them pay. However, he remembered something his father told him once.
"Be careful Vasily. We've taken measures to protect our pilots when fighting the mobile armors.."
His father only mentioned it one other time, a murmur about a security block in the AV system when it came to fighting the mobile armors. However, at the time Vasily chalked it up to alcohol making him saying nonsense, but..if his father wasn't spouting nonsense. Well, Vasily had to think about it quickly before turning his eyes to Barbatos before those eyes were narrowed.
However, it all came crashing down mentally. Carefully constructed roadblocks to put out memories of time long ago. All the death, his friends.
They had taken everything, those monstrous mobile armors! They caused him to make the choice to under go the knife. After all, what kind of kid would willingly subject himself to the horror of the Alaya-Vijnana surgery? He wasn't sure how much survived, but it was less horrible, and more a general death sentence because of how they had all ended up. Was that to be his fate too, a bloody pile of meat and broken bone in a cockpit of shattered glass and twisted steel?
It caused Vasily Brelov's hands to shake on those controls as he found his vision focused upon those twin armors. Spacing out, even the pinging contacts of new mobile suits did little to stir the man from his mind. He wished he could have grown up normal, a carefree childhood with his parents. Life, no, God was far more cruel than that, however, was it punishment for their sins thst caused the mobile armors to begin that prolonged war?
Yes, perhaps, but Vasily Brelov shook his head before he felt his stomach turning. Not in fear, but in anger, unbridled anger. "I will not cower, I will no longer leave in fear, I will make those machines quiver at the sight of Bael. I am Vasily Brelov, and this is my legacy!" As his mind snapped back to reality, the man turned to look at Barbatos, and Vasily asked himself if it'd do, because he had to know for certain.
Yes, that would do.
So, as Vasily figured out what he was about to do, he flashed a half grin as he spoke to Jori. "You, boy. I know what's coming, so you're going to listen to me..if you want to survive, got it? I need you to take up position in front of me..and don't bother wasting your guns on those mobile armors. It won't do much but scratch the paint anyway."

The Hashmal-class mobile armor scanned the area, registering both Barbatos and Bael as threats. The other two Hashmal units were slowly catching up with the first. It bided its times, waiting to see if its enemies would make any moves. Its databanks stored many shared recordings of battles with Gundam Frames, the dangers they posed, and it gave the mobile armor pause.
_________________________________________________
If it wasn't one thing, it was another. At this point Jori just wanted to smash something. His perfect morning had been ruined and now the other Gundam Frame pilot was barking orders at him. "I don't recall asking you for tactical advice, old man." The Barbatos placed both of its katana's on its back. It's mace popped off the back and into the air. The Gundam caught it in its right hand which had been outstretched. "They break just like every other mobile weapon on this godforsaken Earth." He paused for a moment before speaking again. "Besides..." The Barbatos began walking forward. "If these things are made from the same shit as these Gundam Frame's, then I already know what they're capable of, and there aren't many people out there that know more than I do." The Barbatos' thrusters ignited and sent it rocketing forwards. However, things didn't go as he believed they would. Suddenly, a virtual wall came crashing down on Barbatos' systems. It hit the ground and barely remained upright, though kneeling rather than standing. "Gah!" Jori felt like he had been smacked on the back of the head with something hard. His vision went in and out, flashing between Barbatos' optics and his own natural eyesight. With every flash back to his cockpit, he could see blood dripping from his nose. "What in the hell-Gah!" His body spasmed from the feedback pulsing through the Alaya-Vijnana system. Jori couldn't move, Barbatos couldn't move.
He wasn't going to let a machine beat him. Jori pushed back against Barbatos' systems, information flowing backwards through both of his whiskers. His head slowly tilted up. "It'll be a cold day in hell before I let a computer stop me. Come on Barbatos... move!" The feedback flowed faster and heavier into the system from Jori, forcefully breaching the Alaya-Vijnana lockout. Slowly, Barbatos began to rise from its knees. Jori hadn't pushed past far enough to cause any damage to himself, just enough to break the wall, but he could feel the system still fighting him. As the mobile suit groaned and stood straight up, its eyes flashed red and exhaust was vented from its faceplate. Jori chuckled through his pain. "So, there was more to you, Barbatos. I can feel the strength beyond the limiter. I'll have to look into that when we're done here."

Vasily sighed, what a stupid, stupid kid. "My father was one of the leads for the Gundam Frames, you'd do well to heed my advice, idiot." Bael shifted, it's swords returned to it's side as the white suit moved backwards. Turning around, it's thrusters flared as it began to leave.

The mobile armors were approaching fast, drawn to the Barbatos' strained state. Jori gritted his teeth as the man in the white Gundam just flew away, leaving him to fight alone. In a pained voice he spoke. "Fine then. I never needed anyone's help anyway. I'LL TAKE THEM ALL ON MYSELF!" The Barbatos shook as Jori fed his commands directly into the system, forcing it to move. It began to sprint, step after earth shaking step. Barbatos' eyes began to flash from blue to red as it drew closer. The Hashmal unit whipped its super hard tail around and sent it flying towards Barbatos. A flash went through Jori's mind, a snap decision that filtered through the Alaya-Vijnana system. Barbatos jerked to the right as the razor tail flew by. Barbatos' left hand snapped to the side and grasped the cable connecting the tail to the Hashmal. "I don't think so!" His right hand reached over and grasped the cable, pulling on it with all of the Gundam Frame's might. The Hashmal hit the ground and was dragged along as Barbatos pulled, only to go airborne as Barbatos swung the cable around. It slammed into the ground upside down. Jori ignited the Barbatos' thrusters and leapt into the air. Its left foot slammed into Hashmal's head section. As the foot moved off, Barbatos brough its arm-mounted cannons to bare and fired at the head. It's body twitched as the power began to fade, finally shutting off after a few moments and sitting lifeless.
However, there was not a moment of peace for Jori. He instinctively jerked to the side as another super hard tail flew at him. However, due to a momentary lapse in control thanks to the strain he was under, the blade still managed to shear Barbatos' left arm off below the shoulder. A surge was sent back through the system causing Jori's left arm to spasm and blood to slowly trickle from his left nostril. "Gah! That hurt you son of a bitch!" Barbatos rocketed forward under the power of its thrust, right shoulder in front. It smashed into the second Hashmal unit with a tackle knocking it back and causing it stumble. Before it could regain its footing, he aimed and fired the last 3 remaining rounds in the right arm-mounted cannon. The round struck around the neck area of the Hashmal unit, breaching its armor and wearing away the surrounding nanolaminate coating. Jori disengaged the sword on Barbatos' back and caught it in the right hand. The Gundam's thruster roared to life and sent it charging at the Hashmal. It regained its footing and fired a beam at the incoming Gundam. The beam splashed against the right shoulder pauldron, dispersing around it. Some of the dispersed beam sheered a portion of armor off the right side of Barbatos' face, while the paint was burned completely away on the shoulder and damaged the underlying armor. The tail came next, it grazed the still coated side of Barbatos' right shoulder, shaving the paint away and leaving a scratch on the armor. Barbatos cut the tail clean off as it passed, and then aimed the blade straight for the exposed innards of the hashmal that his previous attack had left. The mobile armor tried to move, but its focus on its ranged attacks had delayed its response and the blade through clean through the hole and out the other side. Jori roared and the blade moved upwards through the head and out the front, leaving a clean split.
As the fresh corpse of the second Hashmal collapsed, alarms sounded in Barbatos' cockpit. Jori tried to react as fast as possible with the AV system, however it wasn't quick enough and he wasn't prepared enough for so many oncoming attack. Eight beams streaked towards him as the Barbatos turned to face the aggressor's. Closing in were six Ishim-class mobile armors, all of which had fired on him. Five of the beams connected, One struck the top of Barbatos' head, the second struck the armor on Barbatos' forearm, the third hit the right lower leg, the fourth struck the waist, and the fifth splashed across the torso. The continuous beams burned away the paint and melted the armor of the arm and leg. Small explosions rocked Barbatos' as its arm and leg were fully taken out. Without the support of its right leg, the Barbatos collapsed to the ground. The other beams stopped. The waist and torso were charred black, with Jori breathing heavily in the cockpit as blood ran down his face and the heat seared his skin. The armor on Barbatos' head had practically been taken completely off save for the mouthpiece and half the golden horn. The Ishim began to move in on him, intent on finishing him off with their claws. Using what strength he had left, Jori lifted Barbatos' head and chest, facing his doom. He was out of weapons, and the only limb remaining was a leg. He closed his left eye since his right was already closed from the blood flowing onto it. A smile graced his face as he accepted his defeat and death.
However, before death come come to him, he heard the sound of beams fired from mega particle cannons fly over him. His eyes opened as best they could. Jori watched as the Ishim were pummeled by beams, burning away their paint and armor. Explosions rocked them and they fell to the ground. Even the Pluma's that had been following had been scattered and struck. The cannon fire just kept coming until all of them were destroyed. Jori had no idea who was firing, and it wasn't anyone from Marketdome. They never said a word to him even after it was all over. Like ghosts, they were gone. A normal person would have tried to thank them for saving their life, but all Jori could think about was that he missed another chance to die. As Jori passed out, the Barbatos fell onto its back and powered down. Within a few hours, teams from Marketdome came to search the area. Not a surprise since there were a lot of smoking carcasses everywhere. They hauled the heavily damaged Barbatos' back to Marketdome with Jori still linked to it. Once he regained even a shred of consciousness, they severed the AV link and pulled him out, rushing him to the nearest medical facility. He looked as though he had been sunburned, but the extent of his injuries were not severe, and they weren't permanent.
Four days later he was released from the medical center and went back to the hangar. There he found what remained of Barbatos, his partner of many years. It was more like a husk now, charred and broken. Never before had it suffered such a defeat, and it made Jori think about just how powerless he ultimately was. If he was to continue being a mobile suit pilot, he was going to need more power, more strength. He recalled what he felt when he broke through the Alaya-Vijnana's power limiter, the untapped potential of the Gundam Frame. It was like a forbidden fruit being dangled right in front of him. The question he now had to answer: What was he willing to sacrifice to gain that power?
